10-day camp: $850

Join Thorne's Founder and Master Bander, Dr. Oakleigh Thorne, II, for a unique camp focused on one of his greatest passions – birds! Guided by our founder and experienced Thorne staff, campers will explore Colorado’s birds and gain skills in bird banding research. 

What Will We Do at Camp?

  • Identify birds

  • Catch and handle live birds using a variety of techniques

  • Band birds

  • Gather data and make predictions about new and returning birds 

This camp meets at our Boulder site and takes daily field trips. Field trip sites will be selected when migrating birds return and will be shared with families the week prior to camp beginning. This camp is not eligible for Extended Care.

A Typical Camp Day

8:30-8:45 am - Check-in
8:45-9:15 am - Travel time on bus (variable depending on site)
9:15 am-12:15 pm - Bird banding activities
12:15-12:45 pm - Travel time on bus
12:45-1:00 pm - Check out
