Can you hear that? It’s time for bird song bingo!

At Thorne Nature Experience, we believe some of the best learning happens when kids are laughing, exploring, and paying attention to the world around them. One of our favorite ways to combine all three? Bird Song Bingo!

This fun outdoor activity turns birdwatching into an exciting listening game. Instead of searching the skies with binoculars, campers use their ears to identify the chirps, whistles, trills, and tweets of local birds. Every time they recognize a bird call on their bingo card, they mark it off and get one step closer to a bingo victory!

At first, many campers are surprised by just how many sounds nature holds. A nearby chickadee might sound completely different from a robin singing in the trees or a woodpecker tapping in the distance. As the game continues, kids begin slowing down, listening closely, and noticing details they may have missed before.

Bird Song Bingo is more than just a game.

It helps children:

  • strengthen observation skills

  • practice patience

  • build deeper connections with local wildlife and ecosystems

It also encourages curiosity, teamwork, and confidence as campers learn to identify birds by sound alone.
