Join the Great Backyard Bird Count

Every February, bird lovers around the world come together for four special days of community science during the Great Backyard Bird Count. This year, the count takes place February 13–16, 2026.

Participating is simple! Spend time in your favorite outdoor spot, whether that’s your backyard, a neighborhood park, or a nearby trail. Pause, look up, and listen. Notice who’s calling this space home. In as little as 15 minutes, you can identify the birds you see, count how many you observe, and submit your findings. Your observations help scientists better understand bird populations, migration patterns, and how to protect species around the world.

Already using eBird or the Merlin Bird ID app? Even easier. Any birds you log during those four days automatically count toward the Great Backyard Bird Count.

It’s easy to join, meaningful to share, and a wonderful excuse to slow down and spend time outside. Whether you’re an experienced birder or just beginning to notice the flutter of wings overhead, your participation makes a difference.

Happy birding! 🐦
